The course examines the developments that marked the Greek 20th century, from the the First World War era to the early 1990s. It studies the historical breakthroughs and the various transformations that Greek society underwent in a period so dense in events, economic and social changes that it has been called “The Age of Extremes”. Placing Greek history within the international (Balkan and European) context, the course highlights it not as an ‘exception’, but – always taking into account its particular intersections and continuities – as an integral part of it.
