This seminar examines the various types of sources available to historians who study the history of the Ottoman Balkans, through focusing on selected themes. Each week different kinds of sources are presented, both archival (e.g. tax registers, court records, church codices) and narrative (e.g. chronicles, advice literature, reports, geographical descriptions). The sources are analysed and examined in regard to their potential and limitations for historical research.
