Learning outcomes: With the successful completion of the course, students will be familiar with some of the most important kinds of sources for the history of the Ottoman Balkans (including the Greek lands), will be able to recognize the potential and limitations of historical sources (especially of archival ones), and will be able to use sources for small-scale historical research.

Knowledge, understanding and critical review of Greek history in its broader Balkan and Ottoman context, and of the ways in which

• early modern people organized their everyday lives and of the meanings they attributed to their actions
• cultural similarity and difference were perceived, and of the perceptions, stereotypes and attitudes towards them.
