Learning outcomes: The aim of the course is to provide knowledge of the contemporary feminist and queer theories and their historical trajectories. The use of these theories in the analysis of the society.

The course aims to the presentation of the main theoretical approaches to gender and sexuality from ‘70s until now. Emphasis will be given to the contemporary feminist and queer theories in USA. The course starts with a short introduction to the formation of “women’s studies” in ‘70s and their evolution into “gender studies”. Also, basic topics of these studies as the relation between sex and gender will be presented. Afterwards, the discussion on sexuality, the “sex wars” in the feminist theory and movement from ’80 until now will be presented. The “sex wars” are linked to the dialogue between feminist and queer theory. Next, we will examine the main i.e. constructivist, poststructuralist and psychoanalytical theories on sexual identity. Finally, we will present recent studies of queer theorists concerning the termporality, history and the queer of color critique. .
