Undergraduate Programs

The Department of Social Anthropology and History, which was founded in 1984 together with the University of the Aegean, offers modern and comprehensive studies in key academic fields that are essential for understanding social and cultural phenomena in Greece, Europe, and the wider world. The Undergraduate Study Programs of the department provide high-quality education in Social Anthropology and History as well as in Gender Studies. The aim is to ensure that graduates acquire the necessary knowledge and skills that will enable them, on the one hand, to work in fields related to their studies and, on the other hand, to continue their studies at the postgraduate level if they so wish. Studies at the department are connected to a wide range of professional opportunities. The professional rights of graduates are defined by a Presidential Decree published in Government Gazette 228/6-11-1995.

BA in Gender Studies

The Undergraduate Study Program “Gender Studies”, the first undergraduate program in the field of gender studies in Greece, aims directly to provide a solid foundation of knowledge in this academic field, drawing on the teaching staff’s many years of experience in teaching and research on gender issues.

In recent years, engagement with gender has become a central axis of national and European strategies, while the number of bodies in both the public and private sectors that incorporate the gender dimension into the workplace and/or research environment has been increasing.

The program seeks to provide graduates with the necessary knowledge to secure new professional opportunities in fields related to rights, health, combating violence, and equal access to technology.
