The course offers an introduction to the anthropology of religion. It examines anthropological and sociological approaches to religion (Durkheim, Weber, Geertz), as well as issues of magic, science and rationalism. It also presents basic tools and theories on ritual practices. It provides a great variety of ethnographic examples to show the relation of religious ideas to other aspects of human experience
Learning outcomes: Students are expected to develop a critical, anthropological perspective on issues of religion, rituals and symbolic systems.
