The aim of the course is to introduce students to the major theoretical paradigms that dominated social/cultural anthropology from the late 19th to the late 20th century, and to familiarize them with basic concepts (such as culture, evolution, function, structure, etc.) and research methods.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to formulate questions in the study of culture and situate them within their historical contexts, thereby gaining an understanding of the fact that research questions reflect the needs of each historical period. In addition, they will be able to place ideas in space and time and relate them to people, places, and events. Finally, by becoming acquainted with the history of the discipline, they acquire a sense of identity, stability and belonging to an academic field.
