Learning outcomes: The course aims to enable students to:
a) identify the fundamental methodological tools of historical thinking;
b) recognize the primary sources and core materials of historical research and develop the ability to use them; and
c) gain a deeper understanding of the distinction between academic (scholarly) history and non-scholarly interpretations of the past.

General Competences: 
Students are expected to think and rethink critically on historical knowledge and thinking and consider the part of historical imagination in the structuring of historical narratives.  They all get knowledge of the skills used by historians in their work and during lectures they are invited to use them in discussing specific examples of testimonies and documents. Students are also get to understand the complex relation between past and present and how the present influences all understanding of the past. They are also invited to understand the different and often conflicting ways with which specific social and cultural groups structure their identities in relation or opposition to specific historical narratives.
